Feb. 07, 2013: SANTIAGO, CHILE Arrive Santiago, Chile. Transfer to hotel for an overnight stay. Balance of day is free. [IFM/D]
Feb. 08, 2013: SANTIAGO, CHILE Today, travel south of the city to visit a large export fruit producer and research station. Later visit a vineyard for lunch, including wine tasting. Back to hotel to get ready to travel in the morning. [B/L/D]
Feb. 09, 2013: PUERTO MONTT, CHILE After breakfast, transfer to airport for domestic flight to Puerto Montt, the capital of the Lakes District. Transfer to hotel for a 2-night stay. [B/D]
Feb. 10, 2013: PUERTO MONTT, CHILE After breakfast, visit the port and local fish market to see what the daily catch has been. Lunch will be a sampling of some of the shellfish on display. Travel toward the mountains into the National Park to enjoy the views that are reminiscent of Switzerland. Visit a small dairy farm which specializes in serving Chilean-German afternoon teas, which easily replaces evening dinner. [B/L/Afternoon Tea]
Feb. 11, 2013: OSORNO, CHILE Today, drive north through pastoral country to visit with local farmers. This area has the highest concentration of beef and dairy cattle in Chile. Enjoy a barbeque lunch on a farm before checking into the hotel in Osorno for the night. [B/L]
Feb. 12, 2013: TEMUCO, CHILE Today will be a leisurely drive to Temuco, a major agricultural center, for an overnight stay. Lunch is en route. Visit a family which raises pedigree alpacas and llamas to see these native America animals within a modern breeding system. Evening free. [B/L]
Feb. 13, 2013: TEMUCO, CHILE - MENDOZA, ARGENTINA Transfer to the airport for the short flight via Santiago, over the Andes mountains into Mendoza, Argentina. [B/D]
Feb. 14, 2013: MENDOZA, ARGENTINA A morning tour of Mendoza. This is the richest wine growing area in South America and the fifth largest producer of fine wines in the world. This area also produces olives for oil making. [B/L/D]
Feb. 15, 2013: MENDOZA ~ ROSARIO, ARGENTINA A morning in Mendoza with mid-day flight to Rosario. Transfer to Hotel. Even though Rosario is 300 km inland and 500 km from the Atlantic Ocean, it is home to the world’s largest oil seed crushing plant in the world. [B/L/D]
Feb. 16, 2013: ROSARIO, ARGENTINA A 3-hour harbour cruise will enable you to view these massive grain handling facilities and have lunch. Rosario is located at the heart of the most important industrial corridor in Argentina. The city is a major railroad terminal and the shipping center for northeastern Argentina. Lunch at a local restaurant before returning to the hotel for a free afternoon. [B/L] Feb. 17, 2013: BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA Visit a very large farm that has an Angus pedigree herd, plus a commercial fattening operation plus a large area dedicated exclusively to no till agriculture the main crops: corn, wheat, soybeans. Lunch at the farm. Depart Rosario, traveling towards Buenos Aires. Check into hotel. This evening enjoy a Tango Show and dinner. [B/L/D]
Feb. 18, 2013: BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA Morning visit to the “Liniers Cattle Market”, one of the largest live cattle markets in the world. Also visit Eva Peron’s mausoleum. [B/L]
Feb. 19, 2013: ROSARIO-IGUAZU FALLS, ARGENTINA This morning, fly to Iguazu Falls on the Argentina side for a 1-night stay. Upon arrival transfer to the Iguazu National Park and check into the Sheraton Hotel overlooking the falls. This day is spent enjoying the many attractions around the falls from taking a train ride to the footbridge that leads to the “Devil’s Throat”, the highest part of the falls, to a boat ride on the river. The afternoon is free to enjoy some of the optional tours offered. [B/L/D]
Feb. 20, 2013: IGUAZU FALL (BRAZILIAN SIDE) This morning, visit the Three Borders Point, a viewing area where one is able to stand in Argentina and look into the countries of Brazil and Paraguay. You now cross the border from Argentina into Brazil. UNESCO declared the falls a World Heritage Site in 1984 and is one of South America’s most visited tourist attractions. Even though the majority of the falls are situated in Argentina, everyone agrees that the best views are from the Brazilian side. A walk to the base of the falls will give you some spectacular views and great pictures. This to be followed by a visit to "Paseo Das Aves" bird park to get up close to birds of exotic colors - the toucans among them. Check into the Bourbon Hotel Resort for an overnight stay. [B/L/D]
Feb. 21, 2013: CASCAVEL, BRAZIL This morning, the drive will take us through some of Brazil’s rich farm lands on the way to Cascavel for the night. Stop to visit the Itaipu Dam - the second-largest generator of hydro-electric power in the world, in the Parana river, between Brazil & Paraguay. Cascavel is one of the top agricultural regions in Brazil. [B/L/D]
Feb. 22, 2012: GUARAPUAVA, BRAZIL Today's visit will include the “Agraria Co-operative” that has 4 million hectares and are able to produce 3.3 million tons of grain. Overnight in Guarapuava. [B/L/D]
Feb. 23 2013: PONTA GROSSA, BRAZIL After breakfast, drive to Ponta Grossa. Visit a nursery for vegetables and Frank ‘Anna Farm. [B/L/D]
Feb. 24, 2013: RIO de JANEIRO, BRAZIL Following breakfast, drive to Curitiba with a farm of fruits on route. This city sits on a plateau at 932 m (3,058 ft) above sea level. Lunch and panoramic sightseeing in the afternoon. Transfer to airport for a late afternoon flight to Rio de Janeiro. Transfer to beachfront hotel. [B/L/D]
Feb. 25, 2013: RIO de JANEIRO, BRAZIL Today you visit Sugar Loaf Mountain. Rising 396 m (1,299 ft) above the harbor, its name is said to refer to its resemblance to the traditional shape of concentrated refined loaf sugar. A glass-paneled cable car capable of holding 65 passengers, offers 360-degree views of the surrounding city. Tonight enjoy a Samba show and Dinner. [B/L/D]
Feb. 26, 2013: END OF TOUR Visit the “Christ the Redeemer” statue. Standing 98 feet tall at 2,300 feet above sea level on Mount Corcovado, this is truly an amazing site. Once again you will get great views out over the city. Afternoon transfer to the airport for an overnight flight back to North America. [B/IFM]
