Day 1: Jan 09/13: Depart North America Depart North America on an overnight economy class flight to London, England. [IFM]
Day 2: Jan 10/13: London, England Arrive London and check into an airport hotel to relax and an overnight stay. [IFM] *You may wish to take an optional train ride into London city center for a tour this afternoon.
Day 3: Jan 11/13: Nairobi, Kenya A morning economy class flight from London, England to Nairobi, Kenya. JAMBO - KARIBU!! You are met with a traditional, unique & special welcome Transfer to hotel in Nairobi, Kenya’s colourful capital city for an overnight stay. [B/IFM]
Day 4: Jan 12/13: Samburu Game Reserves Today, drive north through the rich agricultural and hilly mosaic of small farms, pineapple and coffee plantations. Make a brief stop at the Equator then continue to Samburu Game Reserve which provides unique opportunities for viewing the fascinating wildlife of the arid north. Arrive at the “Elephant Bedroom Camp” for a two night stay. This tented camp is a highlight of the tour. Following lunch and some leisure time, head out for a game drive. Samburu Game Reserve provides some of the best and most colourful game viewing in the country. Return to camp for dinner and overnight. [B/L/D]
Day 5: Jan 13/13: Samburu Game Reserves Full day in Samburu & Buffalo Springs Game Reserves with morning and afternoon game viewing drives, in search of game found only north of the equator, such as: long necked Gerenuk, Grevy Zebra, Beisa Oryx and the blue shanked Somali Ostrich. The Ewaso Nyiro River dotted with doum palms, acacia and giant fig trees meanders through the reserve, giving it an oasis setting and attracts a myriad of birds and wildlife. Return to camp for dinner and overnight. [B/L/D]
Day 6: Jan 14/13: Aberdare National Park/Tree Tops After breakfast, depart for a drive to Aberdares National Park, a beautiful mountain range in the central highlands of Kenya. This afternoon, transfer to “Treetops” built deep in the forest. Enjoy game viewing at the floodlit watering holes and salt licks from the comfortable lounge areas or from your room. This is a unique and quaint setting and is where Princess Elizabeth heard the news that her father, King George VI had passed away and she now was Queen. [B/L/D] PLEASE NOTE: Treetops is a very basic but comfortable accommodation with shared facilities. A warm jacket/sweater is highly recommended.
Day 7: Jan 15/13: Lake Nakuru National Park After breakfast, depart for Lake Nakuru National Park with a brief stop over at the Thompson's Falls named after the first European to walk from Mombasa to Lake Victoria in the early 1880's. You will be crossing the equator numerous times today. Arrive in time for lunch and some leisure time before the afternoon game drive in search of both the black and white rhino, the endangered Rothschild Giraffe, the elusive leopard as well as a host of other plains game. There is a chance to visit the shores of the lake where you may walk among thousands of pink flamingos. [B/L/D]
Day 8: Jan 16/13: Lake Naivasha/Crescent Island Enjoy a leisurely breakfast then depart for Lake Naivasha, stopping to visit one of the many Horticultural Farms and Green House operations' that dot around this magnificent lake. Check into the lodge in time for lunch and some leisure time before taking an exciting boat ride across the lake to Crescent Island. This is a private sanctuary and a submerged rim of a volcanic crater. A guide will take you onto the island where you can wander among tiny herds of animals such as giraffe, antelope, gazelle, eland, zebra and lots of birds. Return back across the lake for dinner and overnight. [B/L/D]
Day 9: Jan 17/13: Masai Mara Game Reserve Depart for the Masai Mara Game Reserve that offers wonderful scenery and plenty of game. It is perhaps the only region left in Kenya where the visitors may see animals in the same super-abundance as existed a century ago. Arrive for lunch at “Tipilikwai Luxury Tented Camp” for a two night stay. Enjoy an afternoon game drive and be on the look-out for the famous “big five”; the lion, Cape buffalo, elephant, black rhino and the elusive leopard. Dinner and overnight at the camp. [B/L/D]
Day 10: Jan 18/13: Masai Mara Game Reserve Enjoy an optional “Hot Air Balloon Safari” (Included as part of the “Early Booking Bonus”) followed by a “Champagne Breakfast”. A game drive will bring you back to camp. This afternoon, visit a traditional Masai Village to meet with the local people and learn about their customs. The afternoon game viewing drive will conclude the day. [B/L/D]
Day 11: Jan 19/13: Serengeti, Tanzania This morning head south towards the border towns of Kenya and Tanzania. After going through the immigration procedures at the border, enjoy a picnic lunch and drive past Lake Victoria as you make your way towards the Serengeti for a 2-night stay. [B/L/D]
Day 12: Jan 20/13: Serengeti This is a full day in the Serengeti National Park with both morning and afternoon game-viewing drives. The word Serengeti means endless plains, where millions of animals, wildebeest, zebra and impala, feed and breed in the thousands, in readiness for their annual migration north to the Masai Mara. Day 13: Jan 21/13: Ngorongoro Conservation Area After breakfast depart for Ngorongoro, with a stop at the Oldupai Gorge, where hominid footprints believed to be 3.6 million years old were found. Proceed towards the rim of the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, stopping occasionally to admire the breath-taking vista unfolding before you. Arrive for lunch and this afternoon just relax and enjoy the panoramic views of the crater, the largest unbroken caldera in the world. [B/L/D] NOTE: A warm jacket/sweater is highly recommended
Day 14: Jan 22/13: Ngorongoro After breakfast descend some 600 meters onto the crater floor, which is home to an abundance of wildlife and a photographer’s paradise. This will be a full day of game-viewing with a picnic lunch in the crater. Apart from its wildlife riches, the crater is also of great archaeological importance, with the remains of some of mankind’s earliest ancestors discovered in the area. Return for dinner and overnight at the lodge. [B/L/D]
Day 15: Jan 23/13: Amboseli National Park Today, depart via Arusha, Tanzania to Amboseli National Park in Kenya. After clearing with the Tanzania and Kenya customs and immigration formalities, continue to Amboseli National Park, the classic Hollywood image of Africa. The breath-taking scenery and views of the snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro is next to none (weather permitting). Against this magnificent backdrop roam vast herds of elephants, lion, buffalo, cheetah, giraffe, baboon, gazelle hippo and wildebeest, along with hundreds of birds. Dinner and overnight at lodge. Day 16: Jan 24/13: Amboseli National Park Full day in Amboseli with morning and afternoon game drives. Enjoy some leisure time, against the magnificent backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. [B/L/D]
Day 17: Jan 25/12: Nairobi ~ Flight Wake up early with tea/coffee and head off on your last game drive in Africa. Return to the lodge for breakfast then depart for Nairobi. A dayroom has been booked at the Stanley Hotel, where you will have lunch and time to repack for your flight back home. Tonight, enjoy a “Farewell Dinner” before being transferred to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your overnight flight back to North America via London, England. [B/L/D]
Day 18: Jan 26/13: End of Tour Upon arrival into London, England, transfer to your flight back to North America. [IFM]
