2019 marks the 75th anniversary of Canadian participation in the D-Day landings and the Battle of Normandy. This trip observes visits to Canada’s battlefields and memorials of the First and Second World Wars, and features participation in the ceremony commemorating the landings on Juno Beach on June 6th.

Tour Highlights

  • D-Day Normandy Beaches: June 6, 2019 marks the 75th anniversary of Canadian participation in the D-Day landings and the Battle of Normandy. We will be joining in the memorials to commemorate this day in history.

  • Amsterdam: Follow the tragic story of the Jews in occupied Amsterdam with a visit to the Anne Frank House.

  • Ypres Battlefields: Visit the Flanders Fields Museum in Cloth Hall as well as the Tyne Cot Cemetery, and the Passchendaele Canadian Memorial (Crest Farm). Also, see the Last Post Ceremony.

  • Vimy Ridge Battlefields: Visit the Vimy Ridge National Historic Site of Canada for a guided tour and walk through the preserved trenches.

  • Somme: Visit the Newfoundland Memorial at Beaumont-Hamel and the Franco-British Memorial at Thiepval., Canadian Memorial in Courcelette, Somme Museum in Albert.

  • Dieppe: Visit the Canadian War Cemetery and see the Canadian landing sites of the ill-fated raid. Visit the Memorial Museum, housed in the Municipal Theatre.

  • Honfleur: Visit in the charming fishing town of Honfleur to see where Samuel de Champlain set sail and founded Quebec.

  • The Road to Falaise & Falaise Gap: Visit, Bretteville-sur-Laize, Falaise, St Lambert-sur-Dives, and Mont Ormel.

  • Paris: See the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Louvre, Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower.

Welcome to the Netherlands! Your transfer departs for your trip hotel at 9:00 am, 11:30 am & 2:30 pm. Guests arriving later should make their own way to the hotel. In the evening, enjoy a Welcome Reception & dinner with your Travel Director.  [D]

May 29, 2019 - Amsterdam City of Canals
In the morning, see all the sights on an orientation tour of Amsterdam, including the Mint Tower, Floating Flower Market, and the Royal Palace in Dam Square. Visit Anne Frank House, where Anne Frank and her family hid during the war, and where Anne wrote her now famous journal. Later, visit the Verzetsmuseum of Dutch Resistance which highlights the story of the Dutch in World War II.   [B]

May 30, 2019 - Adegem - Brussels
Depart Amsterdam to visit the Canada-Poland War Museum in Adegem, built as a tribute to Belgium’s liberators. Then, onto Brussels for a walk with your Travel Director through the Grand Place, voted Europe’s most beautiful square, lined with gilded buildings from the late 17th century and the Gothic Town Hall. Stroll through the back streets to the capital’s most celebrated feature, the cheeky Mannekin Pisstatue. The remainder of the day is at your leisure.   [B]

May 31, 2019 - Bruges - Ypres
Travel to picturesque Bruges to meet your Local Expert for a stroll along cobbled streets, lined with high-gabled houses from the 16th century. Continue to Vladslo German Cemetery and then off to your hotel in the historic town of Ypres. In the evening enjoy dinner at the hotel.   [B/D]

Jun 01, 2019 - Ypres Battlefields
Visit the Flanders Field Museum, tour the Tyne Cot Cemetery, St Julien Memorial, the town of Passchendaele, and the Canadian Memorial at Crest Farm. Visit the Essex Farm bunker where Meet your Local Expert to explore the Battlefields sites of Ypres. Visit the Flanders Field Museum, tour the Tyne Cot Cemetery, St Julien Memorial, the town of Passchendaele, and the Canadian Memorial at Crest Farm. Visit the Essex Farm bunker where Guelph, Ontario native John McCrae composed In Flanders Fields. Additionally, see preserved trenches in the Sanctuary Wood Museum and Hill 62. Attend the famous Last Post Ceremony, which takes place at the Menin Gate every night at 8 PM.   [B]

Jun 02, 2019 - Ypres - Amiens via Vimy Ridge
Explore Hill 70 and Notre Dame de Lorette and the stunning monument on Hill 145. continuing on the Vimy Ridge Battlefield and the Dury Memorial. End the evening in Amiens.    [B]

Jun 03, 2019 - Somme Excursion
Visit the Battlefields of the Somme, beginning with the Newfoundland Memorial at Beaumont-Hamel, where the Newfoundland Regiment was virtually wiped out on July 1, 1916. Later in the day, visit the impressive Franco-British Memorial at Thiepval, and the Canadian Memorial in Courcelette. Also visit the Albert tunnel museum and le Quesnel Memorial before returning to Amiens.    [B]

Jun 04, 2019 - Dieppe Excursion
Join a Local Expert for a tour of Dieppe and visit the Canadian War Cemetery and see the Canadian landing sites of the ill-fated raid. Later, visit the Memorial Museum, housed in the Municipal Theatre. Visit Canada Square, 19 August, 1942 memorial, and Blue Beach. In the evening enjoy dinner at the hotel.   [B/D]

Jun 05, 2019 - Delightful Honfleur
Depart for delightful Honfleur where Samuel de Champlain set sail and founded Quebec. Visit Merville Battery & Pegasus Bridge before reaching your hotel. Next two evenings relaxed dinner at the hotel.    [B/D]

Jun 07, 2019 - Juno Beach, Time to Reflect
In the morning, visit the Juno Beach centre Museum and Juno Beach bunkers followed by the remains of Mulberry Harbour and see the gun battery at Longues-sur-mer and Arromanches-les-bains. Then visit the Overlord Museum and the rangers Memorial at Pointe du Hoc. Later spend a few reflective moments at the American Military Cemetery of St. Laurent near Omaha Beach. Continue on to Cabourg.   [B]

Jun 08, 2019 - Falaise Battlefields
With a Local Expert, take the road to Falaise where you will learn about Canadian operations during the latter stages of the Battle of Normandy, including Operations Spring, Totalize and Tractable. Stop at Point 67 and Bretteville-sur-Laize Canadian War Cemetery before visiting Falaise, St. Lambert-sur-Dives (where Major David Currie won the Victoria Cross), Vimoutiers, and Mont Ormel to explore the closing of the Falaise Gap.   [B]

Jun 09, 2019 - Paris, the City of Lights
Depart for Paris. Here your Parisian introduces you to all the fabulous sights of Paris including Notre Dame Cathedral with its tale of Quasimodo. Enjoy a drive to the Place de la Concorde and along the Champs Élysées to the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower. As night falls, head for the Latin Quarter, famous for its Sorbonne University, Boulevards of St Michel and St Germain. Enjoy your ‘Diner de Célébration’ served with wine in a typical authentic Parisian bistro.   [B/D]
