Feb 16, 2019: Sat - COOBER PEDDY
Coober Pedy gives a new meaning to the word ‘Downunder”.  On the surface, the place looks pretty deserted with just a few hotels, randomly placed old mining equipment, a golf course and no grass.  In fact, around 3,500 people live there and 60 %  live below the surface in homes burrowed out of caves.  The tour today visits underground homes, churches, Museum and mine. At an abandoned opal field, fossick for your own opal.   In the afternoon, head out of town to view the moon-like landscape, the “Dog Fence”, that  stretches across Australia and the “Mica Fields”.  Return to your hotel later in the afternoon.  [B/L]
