This small group departure is HOSTED by Garth Layden of Select Holidays.  As you journey along the lifeline of Egyptian civilization, experiencing incredible sights that include ancient temples, tombs, and local villages.  Cruise both the fertile Nile River Delta and Lake Nasser.  No visit would be complete without viewing the great pyramids and Sphinx at Giza.  Travel onto the Kingdom of Jordan.  Visit the ancient hidden city of Petra, a journey through a winding passageway between rock walls.  Step back 2000 years in time with visits to Jerash, Mount Nebo, which looks down on Moses' "Promised Land" plus visit the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth.

Day 1: Mar 08, 2019:  Depart North America     [IFM]
Depart North America on an overnight flight to Egypt.

Day 2:  Mar 09, 2019:  Luxor, Egypt  IFM]
Arrival in Cairo with a connecting flight to the city of Luxor.  Transferred to a hotel situated along the Nile River, for a 2-night stay.

Day 3:  Mar 10, 2019:  Luxor  [B/L/D]
Breakfast at hotel then visit the “Luxor Temple”, a large Ancient Egyptian temple complex located on the east bank of the Nile River. The temple was constructed around 1400 BC.  Later this afternoon, relax and   enjoy the beautiful sunset from the hote terrace.

Day 4:  Mar 11, 2019:  Luxor    [B/L/D]
This morning check out of hotel  then visiting the amazing “Karnack Temple”,  known as the “Vatican of the Pharaonic Era” . Here everything is large scale.   Monumental gates and enormous halls and pillars with  beautiful carvings.  You then step aboard a 4*ship Nile River boat for a 4-night stay.  Lunch onboard with time to get to know the ship before visiting the Karnak Temple once more while it is  illuminated after dark. Overnight onboard the Nile River boat.

Day 5:  Mar 12, 2019:  Luxor – Nile River Cruise    [B/L/D]
Depart for a tour of the western bank of the Nile River.   On your way, make a short stop the “Colossus of  Memnon”  then visit the “Temple of Queen Hatshepsut”.  In the “Valley of Kings” you visit two tombs, including the tomb of Tutankhamen. (King Tut).  Later, you start cruising on the Nile River enjoying  panoramic views from the    sundeck.  Not much has changed along the Nile since the time of the pharaohs.  The farmers and families are working hard in the fields. The green fields are a sharp contrast to the surrounding dry brown desert. The ship has to wait for its turn in the lock of Esna and will pass through during the late afternoon before continuing to sailing to Edfu.

Day 6:  Mar 13, 2019:  Cruising Edfu- Kom Ombo- Aswan    [B/L/D]
Visit the “Edfu Temple” built in 200 BC and perfectly preserved. Continue to sail to “Kom Ombo” where there is a short walk from the ship to visit this double temples.  Continuing sailing towards Aswan , once more enjoy afternoon tea as you view life along the river.

Day 7:  Mar 14, 2019:  Aswan     [B/L/D]
Your day starts with a sailing trip around the archipelago of Aswan in a felucca, a small classic sailing boat.  Walk around the Botanical Garden among the 100 year old trees of all kinds.  After lunch you visit the “Philae Temple” situated on a small island  between the old Aswan Dam and the High Dam as well as a visit to the “unfinished obelisk” in the granite quarry. You are back  to the ship in the late afternoon for your last night onboard.

Day 8:  Mar 15, 2019:  Aswan –Lake Nasser Cruise  [B/L/D]
You check out of your Nile River cruise ship after breakfast and visit the “High Dam”. This ‘wonder of the new world’ has changed life in the Nile valley. You then board your Lake Nasser cruise ship in the harbor on the back side of the High Dam, and settle into your cabin for a 3-night stay.  Lunch is served on board.  In the afternoon, visit a Nubian temple.  You overnight anchored in the Aswan Harbour.  NOTE: Sailing on Lake Nasser may operate in the opposite direction and start in Abu Simbel.

Day 9:  Mar 16, 2019:  Aswan – Wadi Seboua – Amada    [B/L/D]
You set sail and celebrate crossing over the Tropic  of Cancer.  In the afternoon you arrive at the Wadi El Seboua Temple, called the “Lion Temple” because of  the sphinxes that are scattered around.  Also visit the Temples of Dakka and Meharakka.

Day 10:  Mar 17, 2019:  Lake Nasser  [B/L/D]
A morning visit to the Temples of Amada and Derr then sail past Kasr Ibrim, a citadel that you view from the sundeck of the ship. Continue cruising southwards towards the beautiful sight of the famous “Abu Simbel Temples”.  After lunch you visit these magnificent temples, built by Ramses II. There is time to relax back on board in the afternoon  before going back ashore this evening to  enjoy the fantastic Sound & Light show at the temples.  Back onboard, for a Farewell Candlelight Dinner. 

Day 11:   Mar 18, 2019:  Abu Simbel – Giza       [B/L/D]
Breakfast onboard.  (For those who wish, there is the possibility of an optional sunrise visit to Abu Simbel. The entrance ticket for this morning is not included).   You disembark the cruise ship then fly to  Cairo and transfer to hotel in the pyramid area of  Giza for a 2-night stay.  Arrive at   hotel early afternoon and enjoy the hotel and pool area. 

Day 12: Mar 19, 2019   Giza   [B/D]
You begin your day with the most famous sight in Egypt including the Step Pyramid, the Pyramids at the Giza Plateau, one of the “Seven  Wonders of the Ancient World” as well as a visit to the mysterious Sphinx.  This afternoon visit the    Institute of Papyrus before returning to the hotel for dinner and the night.

Day 13: Mar 20, 2019:  Giza – Cairo    [B/L/D]
Departing from Giza, you visit the Egyptian Museum, an absolute must on any tour to Egypt.  A guide will take you to the galleries with the gold and treasures of  Tutankhamun, before transferring to an airport hotel for an overnight stay.
(A hotel day room is available to refresh before transferring to the airport later this evening if flying back to North America.) 

Mar 21, 2019:  Cairo - Amman        [B/L/D]
A morning transfer to the Cairo Airport for a flight into Amman, Jordan.  You will be met by a local guide and transfer to Amman hotel for an overnight stay.  Amman is the capital of Jordan, and the country's economic, political and cultural centre.

Mar 22, 2019:  Amman - Dead Sea    [B/L/D]
This morning visit Madaba, best known for its Byzantine mosaic map of the Holy Land.  Visit Mount Nebo overlooking the Promise Land in the time of Moses.  Continue to Earth's lowest elevation on land, the Dead Sea, which is 304 m deep and the deepest hypersaline lake in the world.  Check into  hotel for an overnight stay .

Mar 23, 2019:  Dead Sea – Petra    [B/L/D]
Departing the Dead Sea you make your way to the “Hidden City” of Petra via the Kings Highway.  Petra is a famous archaeological site in Jordan's southwestern desert.  Dating to around 300 B.C., it was the capital of the Nabatean Kingdom.   Check into hotel for a 3-night stay.

Mar 24, 2019:  Petra    [B/L/D]
A full day visit to Petra.  You reach Petra through the awe inspiring "Siq", a winding 1km long fissure between overhanging cliffs that seem to meet more than 300 feet over head.  During the visit, you will see the beautifully carved rock monuments, such as The Treasury, famous from the film with Indiana Jones, the colored tombs, and theater.  Return to hotel in late afternoon.

Mar 25, 2019:  Petra - Wadi Rum - Petra    [B/L/D]
Today you drive to the Wadi Rum, a moon like landscape of ancient valleys and sandstone mountains rising out of the white and pink colored sands. Much of "Lawrence of Arabia" was filmed and is where Lawrence himself was based during the Arab revolt. Your visit is via a jeep safari.  Lunch is at a Bedouin style camp.  Return to Petra for the night.

Mar 26, 2019:  Petra - Amman [B/L/D]
A morning departure from Petra takes you back to the Amman International Airport for your afternoon flight into Europe.  Overnight at an  airport hotel.

Mar 27, 2019:  End of Tour     [IFM]
Morning departure from Europe for flight back to North America and home.
