Day 1 - Mon 01 July: Bergen, Norway*
Arrive Bergen, Norway, and transfer to hotel – your gateway to beautiful Scandinavia! Bergen is an attractive harbour city with small-town charm and its inhabitants are proud of their diverse city and rich shipping, trading and cultural traditions. Get to know your tour group over an early “Welcome Dinner” tonight. [D]

Day 2 - Tues 02 July: Bergen, Norway
Tour picturesque Bergen, finishing in the quaint Bryggen quarter (old wharf). Enjoy a traditional Norwegian lunch before taking a scenic harbour cruise. Enjoy the rest of the day free at your leisure – perhaps ride the gondola for lovely views or visit the vibrant fish market and stalls selling local produce and handicrafts. [B/L]

Day 3 - Wed 03 July: Bergen – Sogndal, Norway
This morning drive to Gudvangen and embark on a stunning cruise on “Fjord 1” to Kaupanger. The Nærøyfjord is one of the world’s most dramatic fjords (UNESCO World Heritage) and the snow-capped mountains and deep fjords offer an unforgettable experience. After arriving at Kaupanger, visit a mixed farm and gain an insight into Norwegian farming systems. At this time of year, stock summer graze in the mountains – a practice typical of the region. You will spend this evening in picturesque Sogndal.   [B/D]

Day 4 - Thurs 04 July: Sogndal – Lom, Norway
This morning visit a nearby dairy farm typical of the region and enjoy morning tea with your hosts. Continue through the dramatic Sogne Mountains to Lom, in the Gudbrandsdalen Valley of central Norway. This afternoon you have free time in the charming village of Lom – perhaps visit the famous Stave church (iconic wooden style) or take a walk around the lake. Enjoy a buffet dinner at your hotel this evening.     [B/D]

Day 5 - Fri 05 July: Lom – Lillehammer, Norway
Travel to Nord-Sel and visit a family-run cropping and livestock farm. You will also receive an overview of Norwegian agriculture from your farm host who is involved in several enterprises.  Continue through the beautiful Espedalen Valley - home to an abundance of wildlife including moose, fox and reindeer – to the alpine village of Lillehammer.  Visit a modern dairy farm in the region. Tonight you have a free evening in Lillehammer.   [B/L]

Day 6 - Sat 06 July: Lillehammer – Oslo, Norway – Copenhagen, Denmark
This morning briefly see the village where the Winter Olympics were held in 1994 – perhaps you will see ski jumpers training on the summer slope! Next, we travel to the picturesque capital, Oslo. Take a tour of Oslo, including a walk through the renowned Vigeland Sculpture Park, and immerse yourself in the Viking era at the Viking Museum with its well-preserved ships. After free time for lunch, depart Oslo on an overnight cruise to Denmark.   [B/D]

Day 7 - Sun 07 July: Copenhagen, Denmark
Arrive in Copenhagen, Zealand (Denmark’s largest island) this morning. Denmark is known for its fine dairy products, pork production, technology, trade, windmills, lager, Lego and for having the happiest people in the world – and furthermore, the heaviest taxpayers in the world! Meet your Danish guide and tour beautiful Copenhagen including the Royal Palace, MAERSK Shipping headquarters and the famous “Little Mermaid” sculpture. Enjoy dinner at your charming hotel this evening. [B/D]

Day 8 - Mon 08 July: Copenhagen, Denmark
This morning travel to nearby Roskilde to view the impressive centre showcasing Denmark’s rich Viking, seafaring and boatbuilding culture. Return to Copenhagen for rest of the day and evening at leisure – perhaps relaxing, shopping on the famous Pedestrian Street - the longest shopping street in the world, taking a boat ride or visiting the Carlsberg Brewery to sample this famous Danish beer!  [B]

Day 9 - Tues 09 July: Copenhagen – Odense, Denmark
This morning depart westwards and visit a Danish Red cattle enterprise. Danish Red is a major dairy cattle breed in northern Europe and you view the herd and have discussions with your farm host. Continue over the impressive 18 km Storebelt Bridge between the islands of Seeland and Funen to the attractive town of Odense, birthplace of fairytale author Hans Christian Andersen.  [B/D]

Day 10 - Wed 10 July: Odnese – Randers, Denmark
This morning visit Funen Village with its authentic farms and habitations. Continue to a farm restaurant for lunch and a short walk in the beautiful garden. Depart for Jutland Peninsula and visit a jersey dairy farm at the highest hilltop (Denmark has no mountains!). Your host is a leading farmer and past president of the local farmers union and ARLA Foods board. Later check into your charming hotel in Randers for the night.     [B/L]

Day 11 - Thurs 11 July: Randers, Denmark
After breakfast visit the Djursland Farmers Union (part of the National Farmers Association) for discussions on farming in Denmark and the EU. After lunch in Roende, visit a horticultural operation producing for both domestic and export markets. This afternoon you may wish to visit Gammel Estrup Castle or take a walk in the nearby forest. This evening enjoy a relaxing dinner with local farmers at the delightful home and garden of your Danish hosts. Return to Randers for overnight.   [B/D]

Day 12 - Fri 12 July: Randers, Denmark - Gothenburg, Sweden
This morning travel north towards Aalborg and visit a cereal and livestock farm typical of the region. Continue to the city of Aalborg, at the narrowest point of the Lym Fjord.  Enjoy lunch in an historic Danish Inn. This afternoon travel to Fredrikshavn Port and depart Denmark by ferry. Arrive into Gothenburg, Sweden’s second largest city and continue to your seaside hotel for the evening.  [B/L/D]

Day 13 - Sat 13 July: Gothenburg – Lidkoping, Sweden
Travel northeast towards Stockholm, along the west coast with its beautiful archipelago, villages surrounded by sandy beaches, granite slabs and picturesque harbours. Visit a grocery store selling local produce and meet the owner of the neighbouring slaughterhouse servicing nearby farmers. Continue to the quaint fishing village of Mollosund with time to stroll around the harbour and enjoy lunch. Next visit a farm nearby Trollhättan producing grain and goat cheese. The farm is completely organic and they grow winter wheat, rye, oats and faba beans, grass and clover seed. Travel to the rural township of Lidkoping for dinner and the evening.    [B/L/D]

Day 14 - Sun 14 July: Lidkoping – Örebro, Sweden
This morning see the blossom-strewn groves and unique flora of the picturesque hills of Kinnekulle. Visit a family farm with 800 hectares of arable land plus 1100 hectares of forest, 25 flats, 330 dairy cows plus heifers and calves. Make a brief stop at Husaby Church where, in around 1020, Sweden’s first Christian king, Olof Skötkonung, was baptized. Travel to Forshem for lunch at a restaurant using organic and locally produced ingredients.  Continue to charming Orebro where your hotel sits opposite the picturesque castle. A free evening tonight.     [B/L]

Day 15 - Mon 15 July: Örebro – Stockholm, Sweden
This morning travel east through rural landscapes and visit a horticultural enterprise on the shores of Lake Mälaren growing tomatoes, lettuces, cucumbers, rhubarb, plus shoots such as sunflower, fresh herbs and flowers. Enjoy the local produce in the on-farm restaurant. Next visit an established farming family who produce beef and grain and have diversified into several other interesting ventures. Travel on to Sweden’s beautiful capital city, Stockholm, “Beauty on the Water”. Your hotel is nicely situated in a tranquil area within easy reach of the central city.   [B/L]

Day 16 - Tues 16 July: Stockholm, Sweden*
Stockholm is often referred to as the “Venice of the North”, as the city is built upon 14 islands and is surrounded by Lake Mälaren and the Baltic Sea. The mixture of old and new, greenery and water, picturesque narrow streets and engaging modern areas provide a unique attractiveness. Tour the city including the quaint old town and a chance to marvel at the grand royal warship, Vasa that sunk leaving Stockholm on her maiden voyage in 1628 (raised from the sea in 1961). You have the rest of the afternoon free to further explore Stockholm, shop or relax at your hotel.  Later a unique aperitif will be served at Absolut Ice Bar where you will don a warm coat before drinking from a glass made of ice! After take a short stroll through the grounds of Skansen - with its Swedish flora and fauna and character buildings – before enjoying your farewell dinner at a lovely hill top restaurant.  [B/D]

Finland Extension:

Day 17 - Wed 17 July: Stockholm, Sweden - Helsinki, Finland
Free time in Stockholm today before you check in at Vartan Harbour late this afternoon. Embark on an enjoyable overnight cruise on the Baltic Sea from Stockholm to Helsinki, Finland. Travel through the waters of Southern Finland, in one of the greatest and most beautiful archipelagos in the world. Finland is known as a strong and independent country made up of thousands of lakes and a carpet of trees. Summer and winter contrast greatly but the Finnish summer is pleasantly warm.    [B/D]

Day 18 - Thur 18 July: Helsinki, Forssa, Finland
After breakfast on the boat, arrive into Finland’s capital, Helsinki - a vibrant harbour city with over half a million residents. Meet your Finnish guide and travel into the heartland of Finnish agriculture. Visit a leading manufacturer of energy efficient solid timber houses which are exported world wide before enjoying a late lunch at a historic hunting lodge in a lovely forest setting. This afternoon visit a dairy farm owned by a board member of the Finnish Dairy Farmers’ Association. This farm is typical of the region with 80 Holstein cows, 78 acres of cultivated land and 100 ha of forest. Continue to the rural town of Forssa for the evening.    [B/L]

Day 19 - Fri 19 July: Forssa, Finland
Visit a Hereford breeding enterprise and learn about farm and forest management (as largest wood producer in Europe, each Finnish farm has forest), EU and its influence on the farm.   Continue to Luontokeskus, in the mire landscape of Southern Finland with its scenic lakes and national parks and Finnish wildlife including bears, wolves, moose, reindeer and other animals. Travel the historic Ox Road to the Pearl of Hame where the brave may wish to swim in one of the three lakes. Later enjoy a lakeside barbecue dinner in a nearby forest – a typical Finnish summer evening complete with a traditional “smoke” sauna for those who wish to participate!    [B/L/D]

Day 20 - Sat 20 July: Forssa – Helsinki, Finland
This morning visit one of the largest farms in Finland. The cultivated area is 330 hectares growing winter wheat, spring wheat, barley and sugar beets. There is also 1000 ha of forest managed together with Metsäliitto (a 130,000 member cooperative). Enjoy lunch on the farm and the chance to view the farmer’s fascinating collection of tractors and Finnish memorabilia. Later this afternoon return to Helsinki where you have the evening free.    [B/L]

Day 21 - Sun 21 July: Helsinki, Finland
This morning tour the Finnish capital and visit the vibrant Kauppatori market area with its handicrafts, fresh flowers, vegetables, fish and local delicacies such as old-fashioned Finnish Eskimo ice cream, pasties and doughnuts. This afternoon you are free to further explore the city or perhaps do some last minute shopping. Enjoy a farewell dinner this evening.    [B/D]

Day 22 - Mon 22 July: Depart Helsinki, Finland – End of Tour
