This morning you take a stroll in Tiananmen Square, bordered by the Great Hall of the People. Then walk to the Forbidden City, the complex of the imperial palace, which was home to the Emperors for over 500 years. Grand halls and courts gradually give way to more intimate domestic quarters, giving an insight into the pampered isolation of the emperors. This afternoon you travel across the city centre to take a rickshaw tour through the narrow streets and alleys of the oldest part of Beijing. This is where you get the feel of the real China. Away from the tourist attractions you get to experience real Chinese life and culture first hand. You will have time to speak with the local people about work and family life in Beijing and take a look around their homes and compounds in the Hutong where they live. Then we take a relaxing cruise on Houhai Lake.

This morning, unlike most other tours, which go to the restored Great Wall of China at Badaling or Jurongguan, you will go to the less visited part of the Great wall at Mutianyu where the wall is still like when it was first built 600 years ago. You take the cable car to the highest point to enjoy the fantastic view in the distance and to walk on the wall. On the platform of the central pass are three watchtowers, indicating its military importance. In this location there are rolling mountains with grass and trees growing luxuriously. There are many orchards producing walnuts, chestnuts, almonds and sugar pears. After lunch near the Great Wall, you will visit a sheep farm. The owner of the farm has taken an entrepreneurial approach to his sheep farming enterprise with an ‘adopt a sheep’ program and online selling. Discuss with the manager their sheep breeding technology, different varieties of sheep, fodder, local market, and future plans etc.

Saturday 11 May 2019   Beijing – Hohhot    B/L/D
You visit a big cattle farm near Beijing. For lunch on the farm you will have high quality Beef Hot Pot (an individual hot pot each). Walk around the feedlot before returning to Beijing. This afternoon after returning to Beijing there will be time for shopping. After dinner near the railway station this evening you take a Chinese first class Sleeper Express Train to Inner Mongolia.

Sunday 12 May 2019   Hohhot    B/L/D
Upon your arrival at Hohhot, transfer to your hotel for breakfast and check-in for a short rest. Then visit the famous Dazhao Temple, which was built in the Ming Dynasty. This region has the biggest production of milk in China and visit the milk processing facility. Return to the hotel for a 2-night stay.

Today drive to the beautiful grassland Xilamuren, stopping at a local village to talk with the sheep farmers in the region.  You have a typical Mongolian lunch of roast mutton, and a traditional Mongolian folk dance and singing, wrestling and a horse race. Return to hotel.

This morning visit a wool and cashmere processing factory, plus a visit the Zhaojun Tomb.  This afternoon fly to Xian for a 3-night stay.

Wednesday 15 May 2019   Xian B/L/D
Xian was the cradle of ancient Chinese civilization.  It is from here that caravans started on the Silk Road to Europe. This morning enjoy a tour to Big Goose Pagoda; the City Wall; and the Museum of the Qin Terracotta Warriors and Horses. This is one of the greatest archaeological discoveries in the world. This evening enjoy the spectacular Tang Dynasty Show with dinner.

Thursday 16 May 2019   Xian B/L/D
Today, you will visit the rural County of Shanxi, famous for “Hometown of farmers paintings”.  Here you will visit peasants’ houses and their crops to experience how they live. You will make “Chinese dumplings” with local families and enjoy Chinese traditional food. You will also have an opportunity to learn about farmer’s painting and Chinese calligraphy. The contents of these paintings depict different scenes of daily life. This afternoon visit a local school and talk with teachers and students. Later you drive back to Xian. Dinner tonight in a Kingbull Restaurant.

Friday 17 May 2019   Xian - Xining    B/L/D
In the morning fly to Xining capital of Qinghai Province, which is situated on the edge of the Tibetan Plateau.  On arrival transfer to hotel to check in for a 2-night stay, then drive 50km eastward to Huzhu county, home of Tu people for a visit. Return to Xining for the night.

Today you visit Kekexili Food Products Group, one of the largest yak and sheep meat processing companies in Qinghai. You will see their production lines and meet their manager. You will have a Yak-themed lunch, and taste their wines. Your next stop is Qingzang Muchang (Qinghai Tibetan Pasture) Dairy Products Limited. Co. They make milk, yoghurt, ice cream, and soft drinks. It is one of the largest brands of the province. Dinner at a Tibetan restaurant.

Sunday 19 May 2019    Xining - Qinghai Lake - Gonghe County    B/L/D
Today you drive up to Qinghai Lake the largest holy lake of Tibet and the largest salt lake in China. Lunch break to take in the views. You then take a short walk to the pastures to see the traditional way of animal husbandry and nomads’ life. Visit a Tibetan sheep breeding farm at Erthi village, a semi agricultural village. This kind of farm is a new phenomenon apart from the traditional method. You visit a local family and talk to the elders about village life. Dinner with the family to taste fresh lamb cooked the local way. Following dinner drive to Chabcha town to check in to our hotel.

Monday 20 May 2019    Gonghe – Heka – Xining     B/L/D
After breakfast drive further to the west for one hour to Heka, a nomadic town surrounded by pastures. You visit the animal breeding base of Kekexili group and their farms. During May most animals are still grazing at the winter camp, which is deep in the mountains. The site produces over 3,000 ton of meat. You will also see their production lines of barley and dried berry fruits. After lunch visit Guinan County Nanjia Organics Fertilzer Company producers of organic fertilizer from yak and sheep manure. Return to Xining for local hotpot dinner in your hotel.

Today you visit the Qinghai Tibetan Medical Museum. The museum offers an encyclopedia collection representing Tibetan cultural and religious history, such as architectures, costumes, calligraphies, medicines and more. Transfer to the airport for a mid afternoon flight to Shanghai.

This morning you visit Yangshan Deepwater Port, one of the two Shanghai ports and meet with officials from the Shanghai Pudong container terminal. The amount of commerce flowing through this port will astound you and the 32.5km bridge to get there is called the eighth wonder of the world! This afternoon you visit the Yu Garden, an island of tranquillity amid the hustle and bustle of the city. Covering nearly 5 acres it contains over 30 pavilions and has numerous corridors, small halls, lotus ponds, bridges and winding paths which are characteristics of the architectural style of the Ming Dynasty. It was a private garden with a history of 400 years. Outside the Yu Garden there is a very interesting market, the Yuyuan Bazaar, with everything that you can think of for sale at low prices. This evening you enjoy a Chinese Acrobat Show – an amazing performance of skill and agility.

Thursday 23 May 2019   Shanghai – Suzhou –  Shanghai     B/L/D
After breakfast, travel to Suzhou, the Silk Capital of the World and a Land of Rice and Fish in China.  Suzhou has long been famous for its canals and gardens, and the Grand Canal, which is believed to be the largest internal waterway in the world. It was originally constructed to carry grain from the southern regions to the capital. After lunch, visit a Silk Factory to see how silk is produced from the silkworms and made into the finished articles both in traditional and modern ways. Then a sightseeing tour cruising on the canals to view people’s daily life.  Return to Shanghai for your last night on the tour.
